Private jet charter and flights to Myanmar
Once off-limits to the rest of the world, mysterious Myanmar (formerly named Burma) is now encouraging visitors to discover its age-old cultural treasures and natural wonders. Air Charter Service can help you charter flights to Myanmar from the UK or other destinations in Asia to ensure an exclusive and hassle-free experience from the moment you depart.
Myanmar is in the midst of a period of change, but its traditional Buddhist values are ever-present. Monks are highly revered and in rural villages, a horse and cart is often the only way to get around. Away from the main cities, the pace of life is charmingly slow, and drifting down the Irrawaddy River on a luxury cruise is one of Myanmar’s classic experiences.
Though the country’s capital was moved to the purpose-built city of Naypyidaw in 2005, its former capital of Yangon is most visitors’ first experience of Myanmar. Yangon remains the country’s commercial and spiritual heartbeat and its charming colonial downtown is a lovely place to stroll around. The city’s main attraction is the glorious golden Shwedagon Pagoda, which is said to house strands of Buddha’s hair and is particularly impressive at sunset.
Myanmar’s second city, the former royal capital of Mandalay, boasts a wonderful location on the banks of the Irrawaddy River and is known for its vibrant markets. South of Mandalay sits the country’s must-see destination: the ancient city of Bagan, which can be reached on a cruise along the Irrawaddy River – dubbed the ‘Road to Mandalay’. Over 3,000 golden temples and pagodas dating back to the 9th Century can be found on the farmland plains surrounding the city, around 400 of which are spectacularly adorned with colourful murals that are reminiscent of the famous Bayeux Tapestry.
Most visitors to Bagan choose to focus on a few of the main temples and pagodas, such as the 11th-Century Shwezigon Pagoda, Gubyaukgyi Temple famed for its murals of Jatakas, and Ananda Temple with its four standing Buddha statues. A hot-air balloon ride at dawn is one of the most charming ways to take in the sheer scale of the temples here. For an insight into rural life, head to Inle Lake to discover hill-tribe villages, stilted houses, floating gardens and colourful markets, and see the famous leg-rowing fishermen.
