EMBRAER LEGACY 500

EMBRAER LEGACY 500

  • Passengers 9

Filling the gap between the smaller 450 and larger 600, the Embraer Legacy 500 boasts an impressive range that’s almost 30% more than the 450, as well as a longer cabin. These impressive features and luxury interior trimmings make the Legacy 500 a popular choice for medium-haul journeys.

About this aircraft

  • The Embraer Legacy 500 was announced in 2008 alongside the Legacy 450, before receiving certification in 2014.
  • It has one of the widest, longest cabins of any midsize jet and is typically configured to seat nine, while a further passenger can be seated in the enclosed lavatory.
  • The Legacy 500 has a maximum range of 5,788 km and can fly nonstop from New York to San Francisco and Paris to Dubai.
  • The heated main baggage compartment is one of the largest in its class, with space for up to 14 large suitcases, four garment bags and six pairs of skis. It complements a generous inflight-accessible baggage compartment and cabin stowage.
  • Production of the Embraer Legacy 500 ceased in 2020, following the introduction of the 600 variant in October 2018.

The Legacy 500 offers business and leisure travellers a comfortable flying experience in one of the largest cabins in the midsize business jet category.

Interior design

The Embraer Legacy 500’s cabin normally has LED lighting, six seats and a three-seat side-facing divan that can be converted into a bed. There’s also a kitchen with microwave and convection ovens, wood veneer cabinetry and stone flooring and cabinet tops.

The cockpit is fitted with a Rockwell Collins ProLine Fusion integrated avionics suite with four high-resolution LCDs and advanced human-machine interface with graphical flight planning capabilities. Other features include high-resolution synthetic vision, an integrated flight information system, electronic charts, enhanced maps and a document reader.

History

Announced in 2008 alongside the Legacy 450, the 500 was Embraer’s first-ever aircraft to feature a revolutionary fly-by-wire cockpit, intended to fill the gap between their larger Legacy aircraft and the Phenom series. The Legacy 500 made its first flight in 2012 and was certified in Brazil in 2014, followed by EASA and FAA approval later that year. Over 80 aircraft were made before production ceased in 2020.

Manufacturer

Founded in 1969 with the help of the Brazilian government, Embraer has grown into the world’s third-largest commercial jet manufacturer, delivering over 8,000 aircraft in total and employing 18,000 people across sites in the Americas, Africa, Asia and Europe. Today an Embraer aircraft takes off every 10 seconds and its planes carry an average of 145 million passengers a year.

Embraer’s first aircraft was the Bandeirante, a turboprop plane designed for both civilian and military purposes. Aiming to remain at the forefront of avionics, the brand continuously reinvents its product designs with every new line of aircraft and allocates 10% of its total revenue towards research, development, innovation and improving industrial solutions.
