About the Austin City Limits Music Festival
The very first Austin City Limits Music Festival took place in Zilker Park in 2002, following on from the success of the famous “Austin City Limits” music TV series that had been broadcast since 1976. The festival remained a one-weekend event until 2012, when Austin City Council agreed to extend it across two weekends.
Over the years, some of the world’s biggest acts have performed in Austin, including Metallica, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Depeche Mode, Arctic Monkeys and Guns N’ Roses. The festival usually takes place in October and attracts around 450,000 spectators every year.
